THINGS BEST LEFT SLEEPING BOX

Four peculiar little warnings that nobody remembers learning.

The Village has its customs. Some are sensible, some are rather strange, and a few have been followed for so long that nobody remembers why.

Don’t turn the key. Don’t count the steps. And whatever you do, leave certain things exactly where you found them.

UNDER A BORROWED MOON

Scent Notes: Floral Nectar • Golden Honey • Sweet Molasses

The moon hangs unusually low over the Village rooftops, casting silver light across the empty cobbles. Sweet floral nectar and golden honey drift through the night air, with an unexpected richness of dark molasses beneath. By morning, nobody can quite agree on what colour the moon was.

DON’T TURN THE KEY

Scent Notes: Dark Plum • Saffron • Earthy Patchouli

An old iron key hangs beside a door that has not been opened in years. The air around it carries the rich scent of dark plum, warm saffron and earthy patchouli. Nobody remembers who put the key there. Everyone agrees it should be left alone.

THE THIRD WARNING

Scent Notes: Tart Cranberry • Spiced Pumpkin • Nag Champa

The first warning was whispered. The second was written on a scrap of parchment. By the time the third appeared, tucked beneath the door, the scent of tart cranberry, spiced pumpkin and lingering incense had already begun drifting through the hallway. Nobody opened the letter.

NEVER COUNT THE STEPS

Scent Notes: Forest Balsam • Cedarwood • Wild Green Herbs

The old woodland path has always been there, winding between the trees towards the Village. It smells of evergreen branches, cedarwood and something strangely herbal beneath the undergrowth. The villagers say the walk home is shorter if you don’t count the steps. Nobody seems particularly interested in finding out why.
